calling all Student Pipers and Drummers! OTC Pipe band Recruiting

I am currently teaching and writing scores for the Glasgow and Strathclyde Officer training Corps Pipe Band, or OTC as it is usually known and would like to bring to attention that they are currently recruiting Pipers and Drummers for the Pipe Band.  The band consists of players of mixed ability, from grade 1 to grade 4, and it a very enjoyable band to play with.

The OTC is a student organisation which is sponsored by the army which means that pay is provided for practice/drill nights and weekends however there is no commitment to join the army or deploy as a soldier.

Currently the band are Territorial Army and OTC Pipe Band champions which are titles the band hope to retain this season. The band compete at army and OTC competitions which mean it does not effect RSPBA competitions which most of the band also compete in with their respective bands.

The main highlights of playing in the OTC Pipe Band are trips around the country and abroad which members are paid to play at, official dinner nights where plenty food and drink is privided for the band on top of pay, and meeting up with army and OTC bands from around the country.

The band has travelled to places such as Canada, Norway, France and Russia along with playing at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo on many occasions and is a great opportunity for pay and playing for any student studying at any of the Universities in the glasgow and Strathclyde area.

For more information or to show interest in joining feel free to contact me via phone or email through the site.

Grampian Police Champion of Champions!

Well folks this past week I came back from the ONS Festival in Stavanger, Norway and straight into the Cowal Games. Had a great time at both with the Grampian Police Pipe Band and was extra pleased to be part of the band taking the Champion of Champions trophy!  The band has had a great season and shown strong improvement over the last few years.

The band took 1st at the Scottish Championships, 2nd at the World and Cowal Championships, and 3rd at the British and European Championships. This consistently high string of performances won the band the Champion of Champions trophy in grade 2 for 2010. Well done Folks!

Army Cadet Force Pipes and Drums

Well folks, I'm still sorting out what drum scores I have lying about and getting them onto digital files so stay tuned for some free scores by the end of the month at the latest I hope!

This week I am going to be away with two good piping friends Rhuaraidh Edwards and Robert Gibb of OTC and Cullybackey  fame.  I met both of these characters in the Glasgow and Strathclyde University OTC Pipe Band and have had many good trips away with them so looking forward to this week. We have been asked to provide instruction for a week long Pipes and Drums camp for the Glasgow and Lanarkshire Army Cadet Force so for those on the camp I will see you there, and for anyone else who is trying to contact me regarding tuition or scores you can get me on my mobile: 07709085534 or at my email: CameronSharpePercussion@gmail.com

Welcome to the new blog

Hi everyone and welcome to my new blog! For those of you who don't know me, I'm a Scottish drummer based in Glasgow. I have been involved in percussion from an early age having started drumming with the 47th Culter BB Band before moving onto 'Culter and District' then grade 1 Dysart and Dundonald Pipe Band. I also owe a great deal of my experience to playing with the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland alongside some of the best young drummers in the world.

Currently I am competing with the Grampian Police Pipe Band while studying a Design and Engineering degree at the University of Strathclyde. I am also the lead drummer and tutor for the Glasgow and Strathclyde Officer Training Corps Pipe Band who are the current TA champions.

At present I offer a range of services such as one-on-one lessons, Corps workshops, score writing and drum maintenance. I will also be using this blog to post some free scores, drumming related media, world music/percussion news and anything else which excites, educates or inspires me and hopefully you.
